W8IW Gets Red JA Badge

Those who ate breakfast with the Tuesday Breakfast Club (TBC) this week at Bob Evans in South Charleston, were, for the second week in a row, again treated to a very special award ceremony. This time, Charlie, N8RR, was honoring a very special member of the WVDXA — David, W8IW.

As we reported on last week in the News item “K8RRT Gets Red JA Badge“, it has been the tradition for any WVDXA member who manages a QSO on the 6-M band with a station in Japan (JA) to be presented with a RED Badge proclaiming, “I Worked JAPAN on 6-M!

You can tell by the huge grin on the face of Mr. Poe in the above photo that he is most happy and proud to have joined the “best of the best” in the WVDXA — as least as it applies to working Japan on 50 MHz.

Charlie, N8RR, has also announced that a Red Badge will also be presented to WVDXA member, Phil, W8UV. Back in 1979 Phil worked Japan “the hard way” — on SSB via F2 propagation!

Congratulations Mr. Poe! Wear that new badge with PRIDE!
