K8RRT Gets Red JA Badge
Hal, W8HC, posted the following on the WVDXA email reflector:
WVDXA attendees at today’s Tuesday Breakfast Club (TBC) meeting at Southridge IHOP found time between devouring the pancakes, eggs and coffee to witness a very special ceremony honoring one of our distinguished DXers — Tim, K8RRT.
As has been the tradition for the past few years, the grand patriarch (Poobah) of the Magic Band — Charlie, N8RR made THE presentation — awarding Tim with the highly coveted RED Badge proclaiming, “I Worked JAPAN on 6-M!” Tim earned this distinction following a very successful JA opening he experienced on July 21st and following 12 years anguishing over the “JA that got away” … where a “newbie” mistake cost him a JA CW QSO which would have put him in distinguished company with ONLY that “Grand 6-M DXer” himself, Pete, K4OM and holder of Red Badge Numero Uno!
As Tim so aptly stated in his email to the group following his successful July 21st JA opening:
“6-M is the magic band. The almost band, the agony of defeat band, the band that can bring so much satisfaction for never giving up – never surrendering.”
So Tim, let me once again say, “Congratulations for your first 6m JA QSO!” Well deserved honors, my friend. The Magic finally happened for you… Wear that Red Badge with pride and know what it took for you to get it.
Now… best of luck getting those remaining entities for that Magic Band DXCC!

Elite group! One should be proud to be a member.
